Perth ATE19 – Western Australia

Perth Western Australia

4371.2 km Gold Coast to Perth, one day I will do this as a drive. Definitely one of my bucket list items. On this occasion I flew, a 4-hour direct flight from the Gold Coast which is awesome. So nice to arrive at the Perth Domestic Airport to be greeted by Australian Tourism Exchange signage, always makes me so proud to work in the tourism industry.

My first visit to Western Australia and I really had no expectations at all of what this city would be like, but I had heard so many positive comments and recommendations I was really excited to be on the West Coast.

The first day of arrival I spent that afternoon picking up some booth décor supplies from Belmont Forum, Cloverdale a lovely local indoor shopping centre and in the late afternoon/evening took myself to Kings Park. Overlooking the CBD and Perth waterways this over 400-hectare park is just visually beautiful. Obviously, I did not have time to look over the whole park as it consists of Botanical Gardens, a Grassed and Natural Bushland area and is a haven for native bio diversity. The views of the Swan River from the Fraser Avenue Precinct are impressive as is the States War Memorial. I enjoyed a fine dining experience at Frasers Restaurant for dinner with amazing service, food, wine and company.

The next day after registration I commenced on booth set up for ATE. The Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) is Australia’s largest annual travel and tourism B2B Event. Hosted by Tourism Australia, this event brings together Australian tourism businesses, tourism wholesalers, retailers and media from around the globe through a combination of scheduled business appointments and networking events. It was such a privilege to represent Destination Gold Coast and attend this amazing trade event.

I stayed at the Intercontinental Perth, great property, lovely staff, very good location and more then comfortable rooms. The Hay Street Mall and an abundance of great cafes, restaurants and retail therapy can found just a short stroll away. The Intercont. is directly across the street from Her Majesty’s Theatre and an 8-minute walk to the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The next few days were spent at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre in back to back appointments with international wholesalers, retailers, airlines, media and other key stakeholders in the tourism industry. A fantastic way to provide product updates and general knowledge to potential clients about the Gold Coast, Queensland and Australia.

Enjoyed my first Korean BBQ at Arirang in Barrack Street. The food was just scrumptious! Beautifully presented food – Veg, Pork, Beef, Seafood which you cook yourself on the bbq at your table. These combined with the tasty side dishes, sauces and rice and the excellent company made for a fun evening. Yes, I did enjoy a Soju and Beer as well. Soju is a clear Korean rice wine and is consumed with your food to enhance your dining experience. Needless to say, one was more than enough for me!

Next visit west is to get out and about to other area’s of Perth and Western Australia. What a stunning piece of Australia!
