Located a leisurely 2 hour drive from Brisbane, Mount View Homestead is 16 km south of Toowoomba. Mount View Homestead has been in the one family since 1896 and is a 650 acre grain growing and cattle property. The homestead is a 120 year old gorgeous 4 bedroom that has been fully renovated with the modern comforts in a beautiful Queenslander style home. The house itself was built in 1896 after the original home was burnt down.
The homestead sleeps 8 with 2 Queen beds, 1 Double bed and 2 Single beds. The bathroom is ample size but needs to be shared amongst all guests staying in house. The kitchen is simply delightful to look at but very functional as well, we loved preparing meals and sitting around the table having a chat over a cuppa with each other.
The view from the 2 main bedrooms is incredible to wake up to. There is a cosy fire and library nook to just put your feet up, read or play board games. If you are looking to just wind down and get away from it all then this is the place. Families can enjoy the outdoors and nature as well with Chickens, Charolais Calves and an abundance of bird life to watch.
We ate dinner one night at The Bull and Barley Inn, great food and country hospitality. A mere short 5 minute drive to Cambooya this gorgeously restored pub was built in 1902 and offers lunch, dinner options and accommodation.
If you still need your city fix, drive into town and grab a coffee from Ground Up Expresso Bar and enjoy a stroll around town combining the old with new and take in the awesome street art and heritage listed buildings. Picnic Point Park is also a great place to be outside amongst nature, the lookout offers fantastic views over the Lockyer Valley. Perched high on the crest of the Great Dividing Range there are a plethora of escarpment views, manicured lawns to take time for quiet contemplation or for the little ones enjoying the large playground or walking trails together.
I totally loved everything about my visit here, it was peaceful, I loved sitting on the verandah just admiring the view and endless expanse of land, the sunsets are quite incredible and this home has been lovingly restored beautifully by the Bebbington family who made us very welcomed. I’m looking forward to my next visit back here.
