Love the name of this venue, Granddad Jacks, the Gold Coast’s first Craft Distillery. Located in Lemana Lane Miami the street appeal is welcoming. After your Covid check in, you are escorted to your designated seated area and then the fun begins. Being a Gin, Whisky and Vodka distillery there is an awful lot to try here.
A locally family owned and run business, Granddad Jacks opened its doors to the public in 2018 and has since become a popular spot for locals and tourists alike to stop by and sip cocktails or stock up on the locally made spirits.
Named after a Kiwi barber, David Goulding or “Granddad Jack” as he was known Grandson and owner David Ridden and the family have lovingly preserved the memory of David or Jack by naming the spirits after him with an explanation of where the name came from which of course are based on accounts of Granddad Jacks life. What a wonderful way to honour a loved one.
On offer to try and to also purchase to take home are Craft Spirits & Liqueurs, Signature Cocktail Mixers, Gin, Whisky even Crystal Cut Glassware and a line of Clothing Merchandise. Another leader on the Gold Coast in fighting Covid, Granddad Jacks also make their own Liquid Sanitiser.
I tried a cocktail called the South Side – Gin, Lime Juice, Kaffir lime syrup and Mint leaves. The rest of our group tried the Gin Tasting Board – a selection of 3 different Gins, paired with garnishes, dry tonic, grapefruit tonic and served on ice. They all looked and smelled amazing! No food service made on site but what is great about Granddad Jacks is that they work very closely with local food venues so if you fancy a bite, they will provide you with menu’s you just call and pay for your tasty morsels and they are delivered. You can also BYO a cheese board, which is what we did on this occasion.
All staff we met made us feel very welcomed, they were friendly and knowledgeable. When things start to settle back into what will become our new normal, the team at Granddad Jacks hope to recommence all of their tours including Gin Masterclass’, Distillery Tours & Tastings.
