Palm Cove – Queensland Australia

Balmy breezes, sand beneath your feet, leisurely long walks on the beach, refreshing pool & ocean dips, icy cold beverages, and amazing cuisine sound like your cup of tea, then take a trip to Palm Cove in Tropical North Queensland.

Beaut time of the year to visit with the great weather. Flight into Cairns was noneventful (as we like these days). Hire car collection from Sixt, whilst check in desk is located conveniently across from luggage collection point, it only takes a few minutes to walk from the terminal to the car collection office. I booked the mystery vehicle to save some $$ and got a Kia Carnival which we thought was funny but it’s a very comfortable vehicle to drive once you get used to being in something so big.

I like to stock up at either Smithfield Shopping Centre or Clifton Village Shopping Centre for groceries. Smithfield, I missed altogether as I took the new road bypassing Smithfield roundabout. Always makes me so happy travelling to this gorgeous piece of paradise in Queensland.

Accommodation booked through Cairns Coast Holidays, conveniently located on Williams Esplanade in Palm Cove. The staff were so helpful for suggestions in the local area, directions to find your accommodation (even though they also list this in their correspondence emails as well). Honestly was super impressed with working with them and would book again. The property itself was brilliant! Great location, wonderful water views, the pool was quiet, cool, and relaxing with a delightful BBQ area but with so many cafes, restaurants, a pub right next door why would you want to make your own when there are so many dining options right on your doorstep.

Our apartment Alassio 202, we rented through Cairns Coast Holidays as a short-term stay has been totally refurbished so not only looked amazing but met all our needs during the stay. Please note, though the complex we stayed in is stair access only however they do have ground floor accommodation if accessibility is an issue but again getting from the basement car park to ground floor requires stairs. Just something to be mindful of as parking on Williams Esplanade is always at a premium. Palm Cove has accommodation to suit all budgets from Holidays Parks offering camping sites to 5 Star Luxury, it’s got it all.

Totally love the relaxing vibe of Palm Cove from the local galleries, boutique clothing stores, bars & spas. Really good location for day touring especially if you are travelling to Port Douglas, Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre, the Daintree, and Cape Tribulation or even further afield. Local touring companies for water-based activities such as Palm Cove Watersports and Pacific Watersports offer SUP hire and kayaking plus other touring options. Strolling along Palm Cove jetty you will see countless people fishing and you can even cast a line yourself with Pedro’s Fishing Hire or hire a bike from Cairns Bike Hire & Tours.

Dining options a plenty, really enjoyed meals from:

Lucky Fish, O’Donnell’s Irish Bar and Grill, Garage Palm Cove, Underground Palm Cove and Nu Nu.

Took a drive to Port Douglas with a lunch stop at Hemingways Brewery, enjoyed the Sunday markets at Flecker Botanical Gardens and Tanks Art Gallery, strolled through Oceana Walk Arcade and Rusty’s markets in Cairns.

Can understand why some many love this region of Australia, truly a relaxing escape but of course there are so many options if you want to be as busy as you like especially for adventure-based activities.
