Great Saturday morning vibes at the Salt Village Markets with loads of varying product to enjoy looking at, trying on, taste testing. The Salt Village Markets are held every third Saturday of the month and sells anything from gifts, gourmet food, artwork to jewellery and fashion items. Grab a coffee and croissant for breaky from Salt Village French Patisserie before walking down to the markets or support the local coffee market vendor on site and purchase from them. Either way you are sure to get your caffeine fix satisfied.
Looking for something on the aquatic side take a short drive to Cudgen Creek, Watersports Guru offers SUP hire & lessons plus Kayak Tours. Alternatively, you can just enjoy a dip in the clear and calm waters. Next time we will pack a picnic or book one through the amazing team at Blue Ginger Picnics so we can stay longer and enjoy the area.
Some beaut lunch spots in Kingscliff, you cannot go wrong with the lunch views from Cudgen Headland SLSC and of course the Kingscliff Beach Hotel for a super cold frothy and bite to eat whilst enjoying the ambiance of this 1930’s-built pub. Loved browsing in the bookstores and boutiques on Marine Parade.
For dinner we opted for Fin’s Izakaya Japanese Street Food. Every mouthful was a delight of flavours from the Freshly shucked Oysters, Edamame with yuzu salt, Local Sashimi with daikon pickle, wasabi and soy to the Wagyu Flank in fennel puree, tempura enoki and kombu butter. Great customer service and attention to detail of food and it’s plating.
The next day we head to the heart of The Tweed, Murwillumbah! On the banks of the Tweed River and immerging as the cultural and creative hub of the region this gorgeous town does not disappoint if you love all things Art deco from her beautiful buildings to the eclectic boutique stores of antiques, cafes, fashion, jewellery, and art. This town will surprise and delight you. Check out the Northern Rivers Rail Trail which commences from the old Murwillumbah Railway Station a 24 km cycling/walking trail through quaint country villages – amazing!
Thoroughly enjoyed The Tweed Regional Art Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre and highly recommended for a visit if you want to see local artists works on display and pieces on loan from national galleries. Volunteers offer guided tours; entry is free, and the collections are so varied. The Margaret Olley Art Centre is such an amazing space, a recreation of Olley’s home studio with over 20,000 items Olley collected as subject matter for her paintings. Wish I had allocated more time to stay, a couple of hours was not enough. Great coffee from Apex Dining.
A short drive into the gorgeous countryside we arrive for a late lunch at Marvis Kitchen and Cabins. A country style restaurant that grows most of their fruit and vegetable produce in their own gardens for guests to enjoy. After lunch enjoy a walk through the lovely gardens and see first hand the abundance of produce.
Stayed at Salt Village Apartments booked via Holiday Management Co, Tweed Holiday Parks – Glamping Tent North Kingscliff and Ardeena Carool which gave us a blend of Coastal and Hinterland views. The Glamping Tent was the winner for me – roomy, loved the décor, shower & toilet on site and a lovely patio to enjoy a cuppa on whilst reading. Not too far a walk to get to the lovely Kingy high street.
