Australia Tasmania’s Central Highlands – Part 1 – Miena Village Guiding

MIENA VILLAGE GUIDING

Yingina, Tasmania’s Central Highlands such a diverse landscape full of beauty. Flowers in abundance and animals roaming freely, so wonderful to see and experience the sights, sounds and smells of this stunning region in Australia with Miena Village Guiding.

Offering Guided Walks and Guided Trout Fishing tours the Guided walks vary from half, full, 2 or 7 day Walking Tours and Guided Trout Fishing tours, 1 or 2 day options are available. Tours operate out of Miena village, where the Great Lake Hotel is located if you are after accommodation, but your Guiding team will happily meet you as in our case at Thousand Lakes Lodge for both of our tours.

We have long wanted to learn the art of Fly Fishing and were looking for a company that was prepared to teach and share their knowledge about their craft. Jason Garrett, owner of Miena Village Guiding will match you with the right guide for your experience. What we did not expect was a masterclass with one of the few female Angler Guides. Fiona is a great teacher, patient, engaging, kind, funny but more importantly highly skilled in the art of Fly Fishing! It was so interesting to hear Fiona’s own journey to fly fishing. Fiona’s knowledge of the area is impressive, and we could not recommend Fiona or our Guided Fishing Tour highly enough.

Jas and Fiona landed a Trout at the very start of the morning, sadly no photo of Jas with his catch. This Rainbow Trout was the one who got away, jumping out of the boat! We fished from the boat in Lake Augusta firstly then from the shoreline. Learning the art of casting, is not as easy as the professionals make it look but we both had so much fun learning. Enjoyed a beaut morning tea together as well. The team brings everything with them, you merely need to pay directly online to Inland Fisheries Service for your fishing license. At the end of the tour you are dropped back to your accommodation.

We were also very fortunate to have some time as well with Erin Hibberd, Supervisor Bushwalking Experiences from Miena Village Guiding Tours. Erin took us on a fantastic, guided walk to Lake Ada Lagoon and Lake Ada, sharing so many interesting facts about the region.

Erin showed us a young Tassie Devil happily enjoying a run, numerous Wallabies, Ravens & Currawongs. Tried some tasty bush wildflowers Scoparia, not only delightful to view but delicious to eat. Enjoyed a brilliant afternoon tea as well which Erin sources from local Tasmanian producers. The cherries, cheeses washed down with pinot noir were all taste sensations!

What we really liked about this product is that we got to spend time with fantastic guides who live locally and just love the region they reside in. The company wants guests to have a great time, but learn how to tread softly through nature and takes a very proactive hands on approach to sustainable tourism practises.

It was such a pleasure spending time with Erin, a local to the area, learning about this product and this gorgeous place he calls home. As dusk approached Swallows dipped in front of the vehicle, flying ahead of us almost guiding us back to our accommodation.
