24 Hours in Brisbane – Brisbane

Got 24 hours to spend in Brissy and want to see and experience different food venues, shopping in a local setting close to the city, do you like understated luxury and of course the odd refreshing beverage or two? If you have said yes, then this itinerary is for you. Saturday, we checked into the Adina Apartment Hotel, located on the corner of George and Elizabeth Street. A gorgeously restored heritage listed art deco building. The lobby is spacious and inviting, staff friendly and welcoming. Originally a bank that opened in 1922. Tip – if you are driving and require parking, go up Charlotte Street and enter in the small laneway before the Pancake Manor. Follow all the way down and turn left where the laneway ends. You will need to buzz reception to advise you are checking in and they will provide details of where to park. This will READ MORE

Sanctuary Cove – Gold Coast

Family pre-Christmas local get away and we choose The Intercontinental Sanctuary Cove. My last in house stay was 2016 when I worked on the Global GoPro Athlete Summit. It was lovely to be back and see all the new changes the resort had undergone in 2020. Most significant changes would certainly be all room categories having a total refurb. The room we choose was a Lagoon Pool room and loved this. The balcony allows you to sit and take in the lovely water views as the lagoon beach also sits beside the Coomera river. The décor and room layout was just so welcoming, clean lines with greys and white offering a modern and comfortable space to stay in. Love the opportunity to walk and with over 10 acres of sub-tropical gardens and more than 250 rooms the grounds are wonderful. So much Bird life, Wallabies and Kangaroos can be seen READ MORE

Topgolf – Gold Coast

Christmas catch up with friends, so very grateful to have this opportunity to see our dear friends and spend time with them but when the decision came to a venue that was somewhat outdoors, fun and Covid safe we put our thinking caps on, did our research and settled on Topgolf Gold Coast. This is a state of the art golf driving range. The golf balls are micro-chipped, so they record the distance and speed of each ball. There are 11 targets on the range 18 – 219 metres away and then every section has a reader that detects the microchip in the ball. The reader then computes your score based on the accuracy and distance of the shot and sends this to the score board in your bay. Genuis! 3 levels so there is an abundance of space, booths where your group can play, relax, eat and drink so READ MORE

Tamborine Mountain – Scenic Rim

Less then a one hour drive from Brisbane or the Gold Coast you will discover the green behind the gold. We spent the October long weekend spoiling ourselves with an escape to nature, long walks, amazing local cuisine and browsing the picturesque boutique stores on Gallery Walk. So much to see and do, right on your own doorstep. Tamborine Mountain, part of the Scenic Rim is made up of a number of small villages that stretch 8 kms along the ridge of the mountain. We stayed at Tamborine Gardens in a lovely cottage. This Wedding & Reception venue usually reserves rooms for the wedding party as it consists of 4 cottages hidden away in gorgeous garden settings. At the onset of Covid, the team at Tamborine Gardens really did pivot their business model from weddings and events and opened the 4 cottages up for mainstream bookings. So glad they did, READ MORE

The Pink Hotel – Gold Coast

What better way to celebrate your wedding anniversary then a mini vacay in Coolangatta. We choose The Pink Hotel because; We wanted to stay somewhere we’d never been before, We wanted to support a locally owned and operated business and We wanted to find out ourselves if all the hype we’d read about this property was true. Big tick on all 3! Formally the Coolangatta Ocean View hotel, this property has seen its share of owners over the years and if the walls could speak would tell some incredible yarns for sure. In 2018 after a full renovation this 1950’s style boutique hotel was once again open for bookings. As you drive up Marine Parade one cannot help but be distracted by the gorgeous cotton candy pink coloured walls of this majestic lady. This property is one of the most Instagrammed locations on the Gold Coast! The room interiors are READ MORE

Granddad Jacks, Miami – Gold Coast

Love the name of this venue, Granddad Jacks, the Gold Coast’s first Craft Distillery. Located in Lemana Lane Miami the street appeal is welcoming. After your Covid check in, you are escorted to your designated seated area and then the fun begins. Being a Gin, Whisky and Vodka distillery there is an awful lot to try here. A locally family owned and run business, Granddad Jacks opened its doors to the public in 2018 and has since become a popular spot for locals and tourists alike to stop by and sip cocktails or stock up on the locally made spirits. Named after a Kiwi barber, David Goulding or “Granddad Jack” as he was known Grandson and owner David Ridden and the family have lovingly preserved the memory of David or Jack by naming the spirits after him with an explanation of where the name came from which of course are READ MORE

Miami Marketta, Drag Queen Bingo – Gold Coast

Gosh after almost 4 months we were going to see a show, a live performance, right in front of us and no not on the telly. Couldn’t almost believe it myself! My how times have changed. During lock down I dreamt of going to the pub, buying a beer on the tap and also seeing live theatre, comedy, singing or dancing. Imagine my surprise to learn once restrictions were eased, that Miami Marketta were once again offering guests the chance to buy tickets to Drag Queen Bingo. This MA18+ show is engaging, funny, entertaining and the bingo hysterical! Like many of you I felt starved of the enjoyment of live performances. I’m not taking away from the human suffering and casualties that Covid has created I am merely giving my opinion on the sadness I also felt of losing our live Arts/Culture scene. It was delightful to see a show READ MORE

Narrows Escape – Sunshine Coast

Off to the Sunshine Coast we head this month to show our support to the local tourism industry in the Hinterland. What a glorious place indeed, a mere 2 hours north of the Gold Coast the Sunshine Coast Hinterland has everything from rainforests, a local foodie delight with award winning restaurants, cafes, picturesque waterfalls, and lux accommodation. Actually, a whole suite of different accommodation to suit every budget is available but, on this visit, we were paying particular attention to luxury accommodation and we were not disappointed. To break our journey, we stopped in at Landsborough, highly recommend Bucks Bakery for a coffee and a slice. Taking the scenic route, we then stopped at Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve. Let me tell you my last visit here was over 15 years ago and what a huge transformation! A wonderful Rainforest Discovery Centre, Rainforest & Butterfly walk, a Café, Children’s playground, Toilets READ MORE

Go Vertical SUP Hire – Gold Coast

Wow, well who would have thought a global pandemic would shut down many of Australia’s largest employers from Hospitality, Retail, Events, Tourism, Travel across the board our lives were changed forever earlier this year, not to mention the state of our economy. Whilst the timeline suggests that China advised the World Health Organisation 31 December 2019, Corona virus really did not impact many of us living here in Australia until 17 March 2020 when the Morrison government declared a Human Biosecurity Emergency and our countries death toll due to the virus rose to six persons. Other signs leading up to this could most likely have been there, but I am not here to speculate about that as the sorrow I feel for so many Aussies and other countries overseas loosing loved ones out weights this. My sincere condolences to anyone in this situation. For me, like many others I lost READ MORE

Mount View Homestead – Ramsay Toowoomba

Located a leisurely 2 hour drive from Brisbane, Mount View Homestead is 16 km south of Toowoomba. Mount View Homestead has been in the one family since 1896 and is a 650 acre grain growing and cattle property. The homestead is a 120 year old gorgeous 4 bedroom that has been fully renovated with the modern comforts in a beautiful Queenslander style home. The house itself was built in 1896 after the original home was burnt down. The homestead sleeps 8 with 2 Queen beds, 1 Double bed and 2 Single beds. The bathroom is ample size but needs to be shared amongst all guests staying in house. The kitchen is simply delightful to look at but very functional as well, we loved preparing meals and sitting around the table having a chat over a cuppa with each other. The view from the 2 main bedrooms is incredible to wake READ MORE
